Dr Sameen Siddiqi has been associated with the WHO since 2002 and is currently the Director, Department of Health Systems Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. Prior to 2002 he worked as Senior Health Specialist, World Bank; Public Health Scientist, Health Services Academy and Chief Planning Officer, Ministry of Health in Pakistan.
Dr Siddiqi has a Fellowship in Internal Medicine, Master and Doctoral degrees in Public Health, and has been awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health, United Kingdom.
Dr Siddiqi has worked in health systems for over two decades. In the year 2008, he was instrumental in mobilizing the 22 EMR member states to commit to the Qatar Declaration on Primary Health Care. Currently, he is spearheading the work on universal health coverage in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Dr Siddiqi has over 50 publications and book chapters, is the reviewer of several international journals, and an editor of the Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal. He has also served on the boards of several institutions and alliances.
